Nuru Massage Explained: What to Expect From Your First Session
Silky gel, warm skin and a flowing, body-to-body rhythm. Here is what actually happens in a Nuru session — and why guests return for it.
Nuru comes from Japan, where the word means slippery. It describes the warm, odourless gel that makes this massage so unlike any other: instead of hands alone, your therapist glides across the body in long, continuous movements.
Before the massage
Every Nuru session begins with a warm shower and a short, relaxed conversation about pressure and preferences. The gel is applied warm, and the massage takes place on a soft, waterproof surface.
During the session
The sensation is enveloping and steady. Because the contact is continuous, the body has nothing to brace against, and most guests find they relax far faster than in a hands-only massage.
“Nuru is less about technique than about flow — the whole session moves like one long breath.”
Afterwards you rinse off in a warm shower and take a few minutes to rest. Your skin is left soft and the calm tends to stay with you for the evening.
